How do I get warranty service on my pool equipment?

Water filtering system.

If you recently had a new pool pump, filter, heater, lights, automation installed for your pool, you want to be confident that the products are fully covered under some sort of warranty. Most new equipment has a parts and labor warranty of one full year. Some variable speed pumps have a warranty of up to three years, parts and labor.

However, your warranty can be void for the following reasons:

  • Improper water chemistry
  • Improper installation
  • Improper application
  • Installation by an unqualified individual, etc.

So how do you make sure you get treated right should your products fail under the warranty period.

First of all make sure that your products are installed by a qualified, licensed professional. This pretty much addresses most of the issues to ensure a warranty call goes smoothly. The next biggest thing is to make sure you understand what good water chemistry is and do your best to ensure your water is treated correctly. Next, if you need to call in for a warranty, be sure to have your original receipt of purchase and installation as well as the installation date and the product serial numbers. You then have to call the equipment manufacturer to call in a warranty claim. They will ask for all of those items before they can assign the claim to an authorized warranty service center.

Keep in mind that you may be required to guaranty a form of payment should the warranty be denied. Now before anyone gets worked up on this one, understand my perspective. As an authorized warranty service center for all the equipment we install, 50% of the time we get assigned a call, the product if fine. The issues tend to be operator error, poor water chemistry, or improper installation. Yes, 50% of the time We see this all the time.

What about products purchased on the internet?

This is a touchy one. If you read the fine print, you may find that these products do not carry the same, full warranty as products purchased and installed by an authorized dealer.

So, how can you protect yourself to make sure your warranties are in full force.

Here are some tips:

  • Purchase quality pool products
  • Keep all your paper work including the serial numbers handy
  • Have your products installed by a reputable, licensed, qualified and authorized dealer for the equipment brand
  • Keep your pool properly maintained. With a little pre-planning and follow through, you should be treated right should you experience any issues with your new pool equipment.
